Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credit

The Benefits of Insulation

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.

LEED projects globally

  • More than 180,000 total LEED projects worldwide
  • More than 102,000 total LEED certified projects worldwide
  • More than 2.6 million certified square feet per day
  • 50 states with LEED projects.
  • More than 180 countries and territories with LEED projects

Top 10 States for LEED campaign (2021)

With LEED becoming more important in the design of projects each day, it is important to know what materials will bring you the most benefits.
HiTherm’s PIR300 25/50 and PIR400 can provide many LEED credits to help your project achieve anything from basic certification up to Platinum level.

Water Efficiency: Water use reduction

HT 300 and HT 450 may help in the reduction of heat flow between the pipes and surroundings. This results in reducing the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater.

Energy and Atmosphere: Prerequisite 2…Minimum Energy Performance
Proposed buildings and systems must meet minimum levels of energy efficiency. The use of HT 300 and 450 will help the building design to meet or exceed ASHRAE Standard 90.1 or local energy codes.
PIR300 25/50 and PIR400 can help achieve high energy efficiencies by providing stable and long term insulation for steam, hot and cold piping and equipment.

Energy and Atmosphere Credit 4… Ozone Protection
HT 300 and 450 do not contain any CFC’s and have zero  VOC levels.

Energy and Atmosphere Credit 5… Measurement and Verification
HT 300 and 450 PIR insulations may help by complying with energy efficiency requirements with installed mechanical systems and equipment.

Material and Resources Credit 4… Recycled Content
LEED credits require increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content material.
PIR300 25/50 and PIR400 contain approximately 53% pre-consumer recycled material.

Material and Resources Credit 5… Local/Regional
Materials: 20% Manufactured Regionally

HiTherm’s HT 300 and 450 are manufactured in the USA. The actual insulation systems are indeed produced at the fabricator’s/distributor’s facilities that are usually located within 500 miles of the intended application.
LEED credits are obtained by supporting the use of indigenous sources providing building materials and products within the region of use, thus reducing environmental impacts from transportation.
